Buffering Features
Buffering Features on the Map
Buffering allows you the ability to select items from the same or different layers
based on distances from currently selected features. For instance, you could
select the street you live on and buffer it, selecting all bus stops within 500
feet.
Buffering Features
- Select Features to Buffer (See
Selecting Features).
- Click the Buffer Button on the toolbar
- The Buffer Selected Features Window opens. Enter the distance you wish to
buffer out from the currently selected features.
- Select the layer from which you wish to select items.
- Click 'Create Buffer'. This may take a few moments, please be patient.
- The Buffer area is drawn on the map as a green polygon with a black edge.
Any items from that were in the buffer area from the 'Select Features From' layer
were selected (highlighted on the map) and their attributes shown in the Attributes
Window.
Note: Buffering features creates a new selected set, so the original items used
to create the buffer are no longer selected. You would need to re-do the buffer
by reselecting the original items first.
